The majority of each companion's personal dialogue will occur at their home saco, and during conversations, they will interact directly with the environment.
Merrill is a gentle, albeit naive, character. Triunfador with all other mages, who you chose to side with in the mage/templar related quests will affect your relationship with her.
The trail will lead you around Kirkwall until you end up at Castillon’s Landing in the Docks. Head through the area until you get into a fight with Velasco. When he is dead you can loot his body for a key. The key will unlock a room which you need to ransack for some incriminating documents. With those in hand you need to move back through the area to confront Castillon.
This struggle is palpable in his interactions with the other companions, lending a poignant undertone to the group dynamics. Despite the discord his radicalism may cause, Anders’s fervour and vulnerability contribute to the richly nuanced interpersonal dynamics in Dragon Age 2.
Instead, characters who aren’t currently in the party will go about their own business, and players will have the opportunity to join them sometimes, reversing the habitual relationship of the main character always being the one to call the shots.

But other decisions meant to bring characters to life could be a lot more divisive. Busche says at various times during the game, players will be forced to use certain companion characters, while at other times, some companions will be unavailable while they focus on their own business. That does sound like it will go a long way toward making the companions seem Campeón if they do have their own lives, although it could also conflict with what players want out of a Dragon Age game in the first place.
There are four upgrades available for each companion. In the first two acts they are usually sold in stores, while all of the Act 3 upgrades are found during quests. Bethany and Carver receive the last three upgrades automatically with their armor changes after the Deep Roads Expedition.
However, if you return with Merrill to the camp at any point, the clan will attack, forcing you to kill them all. Any other dialogue option will also force the clan to attack you.
Fenris is an optional companion you Chucho recruit during Act 1 by completing the quest “A Bitter Pill”. He is a warrior who works best if you make Hawke a Rogue or a Mage. He doesn’t have a personality clash with anyone.
Anders’s dedication to his cause, coupled with his healing abilities, makes him a unique character in Dragon Age 2. His story provides an intimate look into the heart of the mage-templar conflict that defines much of the game’s narrative.
